HCDE 418: User Experience Design
Project: HomeConnect, Remote Communication System
Project Team: Rachel Barnecut, Troy Fleischauer, Amado Robancho, Kaitlyn Schirmer
HomeConnect is a remote communication system design primarily for students living away from home. The system mimics shared physical space by implementing virtual reality glasses to bring the users into a shared hologram enviroment.
The class was asked to research and create a design based off of the Chi 2012 design problem "Space, Place, Threshold: Considering the Experience of Home from Within and Without." The theme for Chi 2012 was "Its the Experience."
HCDE 418 was an out-of-department course for me that focused on User Experience (UX) research and design. Similar to most courses in Informatics, this Human Centered Design and Engineering Coure (HCDE) was based around a quarter long team project.
In this course I: helped construct contextual inquiry questions; helped construct and facilitate a 5-Day Diary Study Kit to five participants including Consent Form, Daily Log Book, Questionnaire; helped create three user personas with user profiles; participated in design sketches and ideation / analysis; participated in creation of a video prototype including storyboard and presentation; and co-authored academic documents including a submission to Chi 2012.
The course also focused on daily sketching activities with weekly presentations, and reading related research articles.
