The goal of this assignment was to emmulate the style of Martha Stewart Living magazine. This assignment was to improve an anonymous student's adaptation of Martha Stewart Living designs. The Left image is a scan from Martha Stewart Living magazine. The Middle image an anonymous student's repurposing (adaptation) of the Martha Stewart Living design. The right image is my improvement of the anonymous student's repurposing.

As in Figure 1, I attempted to mimic Martha Stewart Living's use of matched colors in vertical sections. For example, Figure 3 has green apple peels above and green apple sauce directly vertical below. I removed the background around the apple barrels to mimic Martha Stewart design's tendency to have borders of photographs blend or dissapear into the usually white background.

In Figure 4, Martha Stewart's design team uses red to direct the eye path. Similary, to create cohesion in Figure 5 was to bring out the yellow in each of the sub images (Bird, Needle, Guitar, text.) The yellow text in Figure 6 does not provide enough contrast but is used here for the purpose of mimicking Marta Stewart Living's use of matching font color to colors in the images. Another objective was to remove background color from the page's sub images that were distracting.
