The Spokesman-Review Mondrian Style

The Mondrianized Spokesman-Review is in the center with Mondrian samples to the left and right.

Comparison to the Mondrian style

The Mondrian styled Spokesman-Review page does not share the same color placement balance that the Mondrian examples we have considered in class. In the Mondrian styled Spokesman-Review, most of the colors are on the right side. Mondrians have more balance and symmetry in color placement than this Mondrian styled Spokesman-Review example. The Spokesman-Review is two halves, a top half and a botton half. Mondrians tended to be more evenly spaced squares with less crowding and segregation. Mondrian tended to use primary and purposeful color schemes on his white-background paintings that we observed in class (possibly a Square color scheme on these in-class white-background examples.) Similarly, this Mondrian styled Spokesman-Review is also on a white background and modelled after the white-background style Mondrian paintings. Other than the deliberately colored header, the Spokesman-Review’s color themes and possible lack of a definite color scheme may be noticeably influenced by their advertisers.
