These Folks Need a Font!

The class was asked to find a typeface that would help to express the personality behind the text of these personal advertisements. The advertisement is in bold with a brief justification of the typeface choice following each personal ad. Firefox may not display these typefaces.

Lovely warm woman writer seeks attractive man with big heart and expansive mind (53-65) for new plot. London. EMAIL: beautifulwriter@hotmail.com

Homework Smart, is a typeface that is much like a person with great penmanship. The font has a pleasing amount of space between the characters. Homework Smart is not exceedingly formal or showy, therefore, almost no serifs. The font seems to represent a person who writes in a smart, stead-fast style.

The woman in this personal ad mentions she is a writer, so perhaps it may be fair to assume she is a fan of good handwriting. For these reasons, an articulate and smart hand written font seems to represent this woman's style.

Decadent aging London woman seeks a plainish man. BOX NO: 13/01

Swansea is a strong typeface for an aging spinster. Swansea has a confident yet modest appearance. A person who describes themselves as "decadent" may want a bold and stylish font like Swansea.

Swansea is somewhat unassuming and therefore may be appealing to the target demographic which is a "plainish man".

Body of Joan, brains of Peggy. f, 24, London, seeks equally confused Roger/Pete cross. EMAIL: amartiniforthelady@gmail.com

This font, Gobbledegook, is silly and fun. Perhaps this typeface would represent this woman well who is seeking someone who is "confused" like Roger and who is also silly.

Very interesting (and beautiful) man, tired of being found interesting (and beautiful) seeks (probably similar) woman tired of the same thing. I'm mid 50s, you're younger, probably interested in having children. BOX NO: 13/0

This font, called A Charming font, and is quite showy. This typeface's fancy serifs go out of the way to be charming and interesting. In most cases, this typeface would not be a good choice for body copy as it's ornamentation makes the typeface harder to read.
