Lowe’s uses five broad department categories for global navigation. This may require the user to navigate to deeper levels than Costco's home page.
Home Depot made search a focal point with categories being an accessory to the search bar.
Considering all of the above, this sketch is a Costco home page design concept. The design aims to be intuitive and free from noise and option clutter.
